Środek dnia, zatłoczona ulica. Dwóch dyskutujących na służbowe tematy mężczyzn idzie chodnikiem w stronę przejścia dla pieszych. Jeden z nich, nie rozglądając się wcześniej, wkracza na jezdnię i w tym samym momencie zostaje uderzony przez rozpędzony autobus. W ciągu kilku sekund wokół rannego zbiera się tłum gapiów. Jakaś kobieta podnosi kapelusz poszkodowanego, który w wyniku kolizji został rzucony pod jej nogi. Towarzysz nieprzytomnego mężczyzny wzywa pomoc. Tragedia? Nic z tych rzeczy. To po prostu kampania sieci restauracji Jack in the Box.
Ranny w wypadku „mężczyzna” to firmowa maskotka, a zainscenizowana kolizja to fragment spotu reklamowego, który został wyemitowany 1 lutego – podczas tegorocznego Super Bowl. Dalszy ciąg kampanii został przeniesiony do sieci, gdzie utworzono serwis hangintherejack.com, na którym internauci mogą „na bieżąco” śledzić postępy w rehabilitacji Jacka, obejrzeć relacje z wypadku naocznych świadków (łącznie z nagraniem z wnętrza autobusu) czy umieścić swoje własne życzenia szybkiego powrotu do zdrowia. W celu wzmocnienia wirusowego potencjału tej oryginalnej kampanii, uruchomiono również możliwość otrzymywania smsowych powiadomień dotyczących akcji.
Rzut oka na Internet każe stwierdzić, że historia tragicznego wypadku maskotki restauracji Jack in the Box wzbudziła duże zainteresowanie. Trzeba przyznać, że twórcom w żadnym wypadku nie można odmówić oryginalności pomysłu oraz jego również nieszablonowego wykonania. Niemniej jednak kampania budzi we mnie szczyptę niesmaku – być może spotęgowaną serią poważnych wypadków (ze śmigłowcem włącznie), jakie miały miejsce ostatnio w naszym kraju. Nie wydaje mi się, aby wydarzenia, jakimi są staranowanie człowieka przez autobus, jego późniejsza śpiączka i rehabilitacja, były odpowiednim tematem do akcji wirusowej. Spora grupa internautów „to łyknęła”. Ciekawi mnie jednak ilu klientów tej sieci restauracji doświadczyło – pośrednio bądź bezpośrednio – nieprzyjemności związanej z nawet niegroźnym wypadkiem? I jak takie osoby będą czuły się zamawiając posiłek w Jack in the Box?
